Weisman Art Museum :: Art and Architecture Tour

August 1: Discussion 5pm at CCA August 2: Museum Tour 9am-5pm

The Weisman Art Museum presents and interprets works of art, offering exhibitions that place art within relevant cultural, social, and historical contexts. The Frederick R. Weisman Art Museum has been a teaching museum for the University of Minnesota since 1934; education remains central to the museum’s mission to make the arts accessible to the University and public communities.

The museum building, designed by world-renowned architect Frank Gehry, is a landmark on the University of Minnesota campus, situated on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River. The abstract structure is wrapped in a stainless-steel façade of Cubist-like shapes that recall the fractured face of the river cliff below.

The tour bus leaves from the Chatfield Center for the Arts parking lot at 9:30 am and from the Best Buy parking lot in Rochester at 10:30am. Participation fee: $10. Students and seniors (65+) may attend for free. Seats are limited, registration is required.
